Tour Ireland Bare Faced!

Day 10 - Monday, July 18th After a full Irish Breakfast at the Camden Court Hotel, We will check out, board our coach, and be taken to the Dublin Airport. We clear Emigration and US Customs at the Dublin Airport. We will arrive in the States late afternoon the same day taking with us 100,000 fond memories. We will always remember this trip but are truly happy to be returning to the land of the free and the home of the brave. The same bus that brought you to Philly 12 days ago will return, to take you back to Baltimore County!

 Day 8 Saturday July 16th Today we visit 'Holy Shrine at Knock'. On a wet dark August evening in 1879,  the villagers of this place had spent the day doing the usual work of the harvest time of the year – gathering winter fuel and fodder. As evening approached, the heavy mist that had been persistent throughout the day, turned to a steady downpour. The villagers gathered around the turf fires in their homes, taking comfort and shelter on a terrible night.

The witnesses clearly saw the Blessed Virgin Mary dressed in white robes, her hands and eyes turned towards heaven in prayer. On her head was a gold crown and where the crown fitted the brow, a single golden rose. On her right, bowed respectfully towards her, was St. Joseph. He appeared older, his beard and hair were grey and, like Our Lady,  he was barefoot.

To Our Lady’s left stood John the Evangelist vested as a bishop, wearing a small mitre. He held an open book in his left hand and in its pages the lines and letters could clearly be seen. He appeared to be preaching but no voice was heard. He stood so that his back was neither turned to the Virgin or to the Lamb that stood upon a simple plain altar. Behind the Lamb was a Cross. The witnesses watched and prayed for over 2 hours and though they were wet, they noticed that no rain fell on upon the Apparition or on the gable.

We will all say a prayer to the Blessed Mother for our family and friends that couldn't make this wonderful tour.

 When we leave Knock we will stop at Patrick's family pub in Swinford. Patrick will introduce you to his cousin Shamus and buy you a beverage of your choice.  Then we are off to dinner in Ballina at Dillons Bar and Restaurant.

The one farmhouse had actually been relocated from Shannon runway and reconstructed in the village. After our time in Bunratty, we head North to the magnificent Cliffs of Moher. The highest sea cliffs in Europe. You will view the splendor of nature from your 700-foot high view of the Atlantic. We continue our journey to the medieval city of Galway, “City of The Tribes”. Pope John Paul II thought the site an important, sacred and visited it during his trip to Dublin in 1979. We’ll first enjoy a video that recants the significant events in the settlement during its 1500 year plus history. We’ll then have a short guided tour of the site to include three stone, Celtic crosses (oldest, The Cross of the Scriptures from 900). Then we’re onto the secular establishment whose lengthy history rivals Clonmacnoise. Dinner tonight will be at a restaurant to be determined.

Day 3 - Monday, July 11th After a Full Irish Breakfast at The Hardiman Hotel you are free to explore Galway. Stepping out the front door you will find yourself in the heart of Galway. The “Center City’ location is just part of the reason we chose The Hardiman Hotel. For those of you that wish to see the countryside, there will be optional (no extra charge) a day trip to Connemara. We will visit the Connemara Marble Company and see why Connemara marble was chosen for so many US government buildings and some of America’s great churches.

Day 4 ~ Tuesday, July 12th After a Full Irish Breakfast at The Hardiman Hotel we will visit Kylemore Abbey. Kylemore Abbey is a community of Benedictine nuns, women committed to witnessing to the Gospel of Jesus through the monastic life of prayer, work, and community according to the Rule of St. Benedict at Kylemore Abbey in the heart of Connemara, Co. Galway and within the Archdiocese of Tuam.
Since arriving in Kylemore on 4 December 1920, their community has been anchored in the spiritual, social, educational, and cultural life of Connemara and of Ireland through their monastic life, their mission, and their stewardship of Kylemore Estate.
For over three hundred years the community expressed its outreach of hospitality primarily in the education of Catholic girls in Ypres and later in Kylemore. The closure of their school in 2010 gave us the opportunity to explore our understanding of their mission . Today, they are engaged in developing a mission of Benedictine hospitality at Kylemore for the future.
A visit to Kylemore is more than an enjoyable outing. It is an encounter with a unique place that invites the visitor to relax and attend to what she is experiencing:
• a place of stunning natural beauty
• a warm welcome, catering in a simple yet excellent manner to the needs of the visitor;
• a history of the human stewardship of this estate – land-use, architecture, horticulture – balancing respect for the environment and the needs of human beings;
• a beautiful place, demonstrating what can be created and maintained by endeavour, resilience, and optimism of the owners of the estate and the local people through the vicissitudes of 200 years in Connemara;
• discovering that behind this experience is a faith community living a life of prayer centred on God the Creator, and an invitation to experience their worship.
Tonight, dinner will be at a restaurant T.B.D. at 6:00 pm.
