Then from the sacred to the secular, we continue north to Athlone town and Sean’s Bar. At 1,000, Sean’s Bar has been documented as the oldest pub in Ireland and probably in Europe. Matt Molloy won several 'Grammy's' playing the flute with the 'The Chieftains'. Next, we’ll marvel at Ballintubber Abbey where  Catholic mass has been said every day for over 800 years. The abbey was the starting point for the 26-mile pilgrimage to the holy mountain of Crough Patrick. The church was founded on an ancient well site that was sacred to the Druids, long before St. Patrick arrived in Ireland. The best part of the day is our ride out to and time on Achill Island (still in County Mayo). It is the largest of Ireland’s islands and a most primordial landscape filled with bogs and mists. It is connected by a causeway to the mainland. We will be on The Atlantic Coast Road, and for much of the ride it will be just us with spectacular vistas, stops for photo ops and hundreds of “free range” sheep. Dinner tonight will be on Achill Island.
