Anne will speak on the coach about Irish history. She has the ability to make a complicated subject simple enough that we Americans get a better grasp Irish history. The Battle of Kinsale was the ultimate battle in England's conquest of Gaelic Ireland, commencing in October 1601, near the end of the reign of Queen Elizabeth I, and at the climax of the Nine Years War campaign by the O’Neill’s and O’Donnell’s and other Irish lords against English rule. In this century the bloodshed is but a distance memory. The battle of Kinsale has been replaced with a pleasant harbor view with: Shops, Bistros and Pubs. We will enjoy a stroll in Kinsale and maybe stop for a pint of Murphy’s Irish Stout. Then it’s back on the coach, we’re going to Cobh. The Titanic’s last stop was Cobh! A statue of Annie Moore and her two brothers stand silently on the dock looking to America. An exact replica is in the New York Harbor looking back toward Ireland. Our final stop of the day will be at the 'Foxford Woolen Mills' for a bit of shopping. Dinner tonight is at our hotel The Westport Coast Hotel. The Westport Coast Hotel is a 4 Star hotel. It’s close to Westport Town, and Castlebar, and most importantly it's around the corner from a real Irish pub (20 minutes), Boland’s Bar. Your tour guide will buy you your first pint at Boland’s.
